Play Magazine recommends PROTOTYPE

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

By Austin

Prototype’s finally out, and I’m sure a lot of our gaming readers are already knee-deep in the world of Alex Mercer. Ready to go even deeper? That’s where the Prototype comic can help. I couldn’t say it any better than PLAY MAGAZINE:

“The Prototype series is currently at the halfway point of its six issue run, and it’s clear that things are going to get a whole lot worse for the characters before they get any better. If you’ve already played through the game, you might have an idea where things are heading, but don’t expect to have it all worked out just yet. Thanks to a strong cast existing just on the periphery of the game’s main story, there’s plenty of room for surprises in the Prototype experience. If you’re a fan of the game, you owe it to yourself to read the rest of the story and track down the Prototype comic at your nearest shop today.”

Read their full review here.

Here’s a look behind the scenes at the issue #4, masterfully illustrated by Darick Robertson and Matt Jacobs.

This Week in WildStorm: Mysterius the Unfathomable Says Goodbye (For Now)

Friday, June 26th, 2009

mysterius6

The final issue of Mysterius the Unfathomable is now on shelves, bringing Mysterius and Delfi’s first story to an end. (Blog@Newsarama has a nice tribute to this excellent series over here.) Miss out on Mysterius the first time? Look out for the trade paperback this spring.

Speaking of Newsarama covering great creator-owned titles, here’s an interview with Adam Beechen about his new series, Killapalooza.

The Examiner has a profile of Ex Machina’s (and so many amazing comics) Brian K. Vaughan.

Check out a preview of StarCraft #2 (on sale this week) over at the StarCraft II website.

Advance Screening: Ryan Sook’s cover to WILDCATS #16

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

By Austin

One of the my favorite perks of working behind-the-scenes at a comic book
company is getting to see so many comics months before they hit stands. The
downside of this was that I had to really fight to keep my mouth zipped
around my less-privvied comic fans.

That’s where The Bleed comes in - I get to show off some really cool stuff early, like this sick Ryan Sook cover to WildCats #16.

From the Editors: Scott Peterson on Astro City The Dark Age Book III

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

By Scott Peterson

So one of the (many) great things about working on Astro City is being able to watch as these total pros shape the book from its initial ideas to the final polished product. They’ve all worked together for so long that they’ve got a routine down pat, and everyone sees pretty much every step of the process. I’ve never worked on another series where, say, the cover artist sees the rough pencils or the colorist sees the cover sketch, even though the cover’s going to be painted. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever worked on before, but these guys totally know what they’re doing, and they’ve found a system that works for them. Which is nice, because it makes things that much easier for Kristy Quinn and me. And while, as she’ll attest, I have no issue with making her life more difficult, anything that makes my life simpler is by definition a good thing.

But even beyond that, it’s just cool to observing as Kurt Busiek’s plot is turned into rough pencils by Brent Anderson, which are then refined and then inked and then colored by Alex Sinclair. Here are a couple pages to show part of the evolution. Pretty groovy, no?

By Austin

What happens when you cross a super-star rock band with a superhuman-killing squad of assassins? If you don’t know, you’re not reading Killapalooza. Think “Behind the Music” with murder, mayhem and superheroes.

If you missed the first issue, there’s still time to catch up. Adam Beechen and Trevor Hairsine are ramping up the action in issue #2, which comes out this week.

We’ve got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Trevor’s cover process for you here on The Bleed.

Blog Address / Registration Issue

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

By Dave McCullough

Hey everyone, we’ve discovered an issue that prevents new users from registering for the blog. We’re working on correcting it, but the fix will require a slight change to the blog’s address.

Unfortunately, changing the blog’s address may break the RSS feed for anyone who has subscribed already. If this happens to you, just return to the blog and re-subscribe to the feed.

The address change may also affect any links or bookmarks you have made. To reduce the chances that you’ll lose track of us, we will temporarily redirect the old address to the new one. To be safe, you should update your bookmarks. To be even safer, you can bookmark us or link to us using our shortened address, wildstormblog.com. This one will always point you to the right place.

Sorry for the inconvenience and for those of you that helped us find the trouble, thanks for bringing it to our attention! We’ll keep you updated as we have more info.
