If you’re anything like me, you’ve been craving the next installment of North 40 as soon as you finished reading the first issue. You DID read it, right? If not, these pencils by Fiona Staples from issue #2 should make you want to go back and catch up. I mean, really. Zombies!

Recovering from Comic-Con ‘09

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

By Austin

San Diego ‘09 has come and gone, but we’re still recovering from the whirlwind of the convention. We went in with a lot of big announcements this year, many of which I’ve touched on here on The Bleed. WildStorm’s panel was huge this year - which you can see by the photos here. (We start 12 rows down.)

Want more? CBR and Newsarama both have coverage of the WildStorm panel - or you can you listen to our podcast of the panel here. (Caution: Contains some explicit language.) Read the rest of this entry »

Weren’t in San Diego last week? Here’s your chance to grab This Is WildStorm Universe #0

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

By Austin

A lot of fans who weren’t able to spend five days in sunny San Diego this past week have been asking when they’ll be able to get their hands on the This Is Wildstorm Universe #0 giveaway book I’ve been previewing.

Here’s the good word: TIWU #0 (which I’ve so elegantly abbreviated) will be hitting
comic shops this week, so make sure you grab it along with your copy of WildCats #13 - as well as your Cassaday Planetary #27 promo poster, if you haven’t picked one up yet!

Drew Johnson’s This Is WildStorm Universe #0 Authority pencils

Monday, July 27th, 2009

By Austin

San Diego Comic-Con has wrapped for another year, and we’re all exhausted. My body is quickly shutting down from exhaustion, after days of meeting fans and freelancers at the booth and rushing from panel to panel through the crowded floor.

I’ve managed to crawl to my computer and lift myself up long enough to type out this blog post, with one more piece of art from the beautiful This Is WildStorm Universe #0. In this piece, Drew Johnson lends his amazing talents to The Authority - I’ll let the art speak for itself while I crawl back to bed.

WildStorm’s San Diego panel, for the benefit of the rest of the world

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

By Austin

For those of you who aren’t partying it up out here in good ol’ San Diego, we’ve got a ton of news coming. We had so much to talk about on the panel this year that I’m only able to cover some of the WildStorm Universe highlights:

- WildCats has a new regular team with issue #19 - none other than Adam Beechen, writer of WildStorm’s own Killapalooza, and artist Tim Seeley.

- Marc Bernardin and Adam Freeman take on The Authority with issue #17. Artist Al Barrionuevo joins the team a month later with issue #18.

- Phil Hester and Cruddie Torian jump in on the Gen13 action with issue #33.

- Welcome to Tranquility is back with a new miniseries! Gail Simone and Horacio Domingues revisit Tranquility in One Foot In The Grave - with covers by the always top-notch Neil Googe.

So much to say, so little time. Tune in next week for more details!

San Diego Comic-Con is Here!

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

By Hank Kanalz

Wow, I can’t believe San Diego Comic-Con is already here. It’s no longer on the horizon, we are actually T-Minus ZERO. Months of plotting and planning — hopefully it will all pay off and the show will go off without a hitch. I’m heading out early to attend Preview Night — that is usually a great indicator of how the rest of the show will go!

We’ve been teasing you with things for a while now, leading into the convention. “Show, don’t just tell” is our policy, and you can now add “give” to that phrase. There are some GREAT items that you can pick up by visiting us at the booth this year, as well as the booths of our partners. In addition to the many free sample WildStorm comics, here’s a handy checklist of everything else you’ll want:

  • THIS IS WILDSTORM UNIVERSE #0: Austin’s been teasing you with imagery this last week, but there’s nothing like holding a printed book in your hands, right?
  • GOD OF WAR Poster: The Sony booth will be distributing the GOD OF WAR poster, featuring the stunning cover artwork by Andy Park.
  • TRICK ’r TREAT Preview: The Original Graphic Novel will be in store the first week of October, but if you stop in the Warner Home Video booth, you can pick up a preview chapter (by Marc Andreyko and Fiona Staples) of this awesome adaptation. Be sure to check out tomorrow’s panel and screening of the film, too!
  • DANTE’S INFERNO Lithograph and #0 Preview Book: The amazing Diego Latorre will be signing an EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED EDITION lithograph at the EA booth, plus he and writer Christos Gage will be signing the #0 book at the EA and the WildStorm booths.
  • PLANETARY POSTER: You’ve heard the news — #27 is coming this October! Until then, enjoy the impressive 27” x 34” poster, featuring the entire triple-sized final cover by John Cassaday and Laura Martin! I know I’m biased, but this is really a beautiful sight to behold.

If you see me at the WildStorm table, please introduce yourself. If I rush right by you, don’t take it personally — I am sure I’m running late to my next appointment.

And I’ll definitely see you at our panel this Saturday, Room 4, at 3:30!
