Enjoy the next eight months, WSU fans -you’ll miss the days when you had TWO new Authority comics to look forward to each month.
At risk of spoiling you Authority fans further, editorial just passed me some sweet pages from The Lost Year #5 - featuring a first look at Jonathan Wayshak’s art on the book. (The top-notch coloring job was done by Alan Passalaqua.)
Let me draw your special attention to the panel featuring the Engineer… Wow. We may only be a few days in, but that’s my personal Panel-of-the-Year for 2010 thus far.

The art’s looking good
Wayshak’s style grew on me more and more I moved through the panels. It’s got a nice Simon Bisley-esque look. He’d be great on an old school CYBERNARY miniseries.
Can’t wait to see more.
Apollo looks sadistically happy in that 3rd page.
@Grifter78
That panel made me laugh
I’m a fan of Jonathan Wayshak’s work. His ‘Ferryman’ was great.
These pages match the gritty tone of the Authority. It’s beautiful.
I like the shot of Shen perched like a bird. Engineer drinking panel, is that Harley on the screen? LOL.
Don’t like the faces, and Angie looks like Marilyn Manson when he was wearing the whole androgynous Breast suit thing. Colouring is nice though…
Don’t like the faces either, I agree Angie looks creepy. The art has potential, but it doesn’t seem to blend well with AUTHORITY. Although I’m curious to see what his CYBERNARY would look like.
I also agree that I don’t like the art style, but what I signed up on this site to comment about is that it once again seems like the writers and/or artists haven’t even bothered to research what the characters’ powers are and no editor has bothered to correct them. It’s really frustrating and disgraceful that all the Authority books are suffering from such shoddy work when it has such potential as a series. I’d like to think that I’m not being nitpicky and knowing the characters is an actual fundamental requirement to producing a comic about them.
During Millar’s run, Apollo flies out of Earth orbit to the moon and “sterilizes” it with little effort. There is an entire discussion with Angie about how he is able to do this – he simply does not breathe. There are also numerous other examples of Apollo flying in space without needing a helmet and rockets. Regardless of the science involved, can we at least agree on some basic superpowers for one of the main characters? I really don’t understand how anyone at Wildstorm thinks these kinds of elementary screwups are acceptable and is going to sell issues. Based on these pages alone I won’t be buying and I am an otherwise loyal fan.
Sorry for the rant guys, I know no one of importance is actually going to read this if it’s even allowed to go up onto the site, but I live in eternal hope.
Well that’s embarrassing. The arc I’m referring to in the Apollo complaint is from Ellis’ last run, before Millar. Which, if anything, should add moral weight as Apollo was created by Ellis in the first place.
Rentropy, maybe it would be better to wait until you see the pages lettered, there is probably an explanation in the text for the rockets or whatever they are.
I like the artwork. Interestingly spiky and unpretty.
